The Spectator Experience at FAR-OUT

On Conference Day

Our Conference is open to Spectators! The conference is held at the Stuart O. Witt Event Center at the Mojave Air & Space Port on Wednesday, May 27th 2026. The specific schedule will be posted closer to the competition, but generally talks and events are expected to run from 8:30 until 5:00pm. You will be able to meet teams, listen to speakers and presentations, and see some rockets! Note that tours run during the competition and during the conference are for Rocketeers and Volunteers only; Spectators cannot attend these due to insurance restrictions.

Directions can be found by putting “Stuart O. Witt Event Center” into your GPS, which should show to be in Mojave. As you approach, there should be signs directing you for parking.

During Setup and Launch Days

For Thursday May 28th through Monday June 1st, we have a separate Spectator and Team Setup Area where Spectators will be located. To visit the main FAR launch pad area, there will be guided tours three times a day between launch windows that you can elect to go on. Below is a rough map of what our Spectator and Team Setup Areas will look like this year (not to scale, subject to change.)

To reach the Team Setup and Spectator Areas, input the coordinates 35.342322, -117.825152 into your GPS - make sure it is taking you via Munsey Road. This will direct you to fork in the road where FAR-OUT should have a tent set up for road control; the Team Setup and Spectator Areas are down the road to the left. Make sure to have your badge on you and visible at all times.

NOTE: The desert is very hot (>100 degrees F), very dry, and can have dangerous wildlife. The nearest hospital is more than an hour drive away. Please be aware of any health conditions you may have before attending. For more desert safety information, please visit https://friendsofamateurrocketry.org/the-desert/ .

Lodging

Spectators can either camp in the “Parking” area indicated on the map above or can book a hotel or Airbnb in towns nearby. The closest towns to FAR are Randsburg, California City, and Mojave, with the larger towns that have more shopping and lodging options being Tehachapi (~1hr), Ridgecrest (~1hr), and Lancaster (~1hr30 min).

If you are planning to camp, please let us know over email. Otherwise, we are currently trying to secure hotel discounts for attendees, so stay tuned!
